A lower budget alternative to other billiard games.

Billar Pool 8 y 9 Ball is sometimes mistaken for 3D Pool (the game), but this game only plays from above. It is three-dimensional in that the board, balls and cue are shaded, but it is not three-dimensional where you get to aim your shot by looking down as per the perspective of the player. You have to play the game from the top as if you were playing remotely with an overhead camera.

The Game Is A Little Addictive

Part of the reason why you shouldn’t dismiss this game outright is because it is addictive and there is a fair amount of tactical play involved. Getting to play using the overhead view is not uncommon with older games, but playing this way can be engaging if the game is set up correctly, and the programmers may have done some work on this one.

The work they did involves the physics of the game. It is very easy to set up a game where one ball hits another and moves, but it is difficult to set up a game that takes into account the angle, impact, resistance, surface tension, and things of that ilk. It may sound as if the game has been oversold at this point, so to clarify, this game doesn’t break any records for physics and realism, but it is clear that the developers have put “some” thought into it. They didn’t use supercomputers to calculate all the variables and make this the most realistic simulator ever, but on the other hand, they haven’t set up a simple hit-and-roll mechanic either.

The Semi-Real Physics Helps Make The Game More Tactical

Again, the words “Semi” was used because the game only has slightly more physics calculations than the average overhead pool/billiards game. These physics mean that you can play a tactical game and it actually means something. In other words, it means you can build skills and actually use them to win matches.

You can play against the computer, or you can play online with whoever else may be playing at the time. Just be aware of the fact that some players are very good and are able to get on the table and win a round without you even getting the chance to hit a ball.

Pros

  • The developers did put some thought into the game
  • Online or offline play
  • You can use tactics and skills

Cons

  • There are few people online to play against
  • The game could use a few updates
  • Most people will become bored after around an hour
